Okanagan Falls is just north of the Sonora Desert and is situated in one of the most productive fruit and wine grape growing areas of the province. The deep sandy soils of the southern region support the many orchards of apples, cherries, peaches, plums and other soft fruits along with vineyards and nurseries. Much needed irrigation is supplied by the several lakes that run along the valley floor. Nearly 60 hectares of farm land in the Okanagan is included in the Agricultural Land Reserve. The reserve protects scarce farmland from urbanization.
